“What I did today” posts

What I did today, 5-17-12

Today was  my final day of class. I didn’t know what to do today, so I took a picture off of the internet of Oliver Sykes, Bring Me The Horizon’s frontman, and edited it. I got the BMTH logo off of the internet, and cut the words out. I then pasted them in and added a shadow, glow, bevel and gradient overlay of black and red. Then I used the paint brush, and used Color burn on all of the image, except the logo and Oli himself.

Today I opened up my poster image in Publisher, and resized it so that it would be 10″ by 13″ so we could print it out. Afterward, I printed off a before and after for my timesheet, and then updated my website to include the before and after images for the last 3 projects I’ve done.

What I did today, 5-15-12

Today I completed yet another picture, this is the one I’d like to use as my poster. I first cut out Austin Carlile, and added a glow affect to him. I added a Grain Filter to the background, and then pasted him back in. Afterward, I took a picture of the Of Mice& Men logo, cut out the words and pasted it into the picture. I then added a drop shadow and bevel to it. Then I proceeded to add and edit some text, which are lyrics from “Still YDG’n!?” by Of Mice & Men.

What I did today, 5-14-20

Today I continued, and finished the Austin Carlile .gif I had been working on (However, it wouldn’t display correctly online). Afterwards, I updated my blog and website, uploaded the image, and then looked for another image to edit or make a .gif out of.

What I did today, 5-10-12

Today I finished my poster by re-doing the edges with the lasso tool, and then putting the re-done image back in place.
Then I began a GIF image. I cut Austin out into a different image, then I took the background and added a progressive ripple effect to it, and then added and modified text for the GIF.

What I did today, 5-9-12

Today I continued working on my poster. Today I cut out Austin Carlile, and added an outer glow and changed the brightness and contrast on him. Then on the background layer, I applied the Grain filter and changed brightness and contrast on it as well. I then pasted Austin back onto the background, and changed the text position, as well as the font and size of the word “School”.

I had to leave early today due to a dentist appointment.

What I did today, 5-8-12

Today I updated my website, screenshotted some of my favorite work from this year and sent it to Mrs. Frascht. I also began on my 11″ by 14″ picture for the wall.

What I did today, 5-1-12

Today I had ACC in place of tomorrow, because I’ll be at a dentist appointment in Enid. I finally scored a 6 on Locating Information, and got Platinum Level on my WorkKeys Certifications.

Afterwards, I returned to class and began working on Navlinks for the “About The Choir” section. Mrs. Cummings wants me to add in a few pages.

‘The Beginning’, Which just tells how the Vocal Department got started

‘The Band’, Which will list the instrument and the person who plays the instrument for EG

‘All-State’, Which will give a description of what All-State is, and who made it

‘Western Honor Choir’, Which will give a description of what Western Honor Choir is, and who made it

And ‘Solos, Ensembles, and Choirs’, Which will show who/what got Superior ratings at both Districts, and State.

I will continue working on this next Tuesday when I return.
(Wednesday – Dentist
Thursday & Friday – Tri-state Showchoir
Monday – Awards in the morning)

What I did today, 4-30-12

Today I worked on the About The Choirs page on the Electric Gold website.
I added a column on the left side with the names of the director and our band.

I also went back to the homepage and added the events for the month of May in the two columns for dates/events.

I then printed out leave requests for this week, as well as the work I got done today and my e-mail for the week.

What I did today, 4-27-12

Today I worked on the EG website.
I finally got all of the elements on the picture pages positioned where I wanted them, and got them all copied onto the other pages, saved, and uploaded to the server. Now I’m just going to need the content! About done with the website (for now, anyways)

What I did today, 4-25-12

Today I had ACC. Today in ACC I took the Locating Information test and got a 5. I’m pretty sure if I don’t get a 6 next week (our last week for ACC), I will explode.

Afterwards I came to class, and update my blog and website.

What I did today, 4-24-12

Today I got my website back up to date, after being gone many days. Then I took the Photoshop CS3 Brainbench exam just to see how well I would do, and I got a 2.50. After that I continued watching Chapter 4 of Mobile Web Design & Development  Fundamentals on Lynda.com. In the few videos I watched, I learned the history of mobile markup languages, and I also learned the difference in mobile styles. Such as the “do nothing” style, which sends the exact same forms and styles to mobile and desktop. The “Multi-serve”, which slightly modifies the mobile layout, but uses the same mobile layout for all mobile devices. And then the “mobile specific” style, where your code detects the kind of mobile devices (such as iPad, Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, etc.) and is styled according to which device they have.

What I did today, 4-5-12

Today, after reading the e-mail about the political shirt contest, I decided I would begin a shirt for the contest.
I located three images of Mitt Romney that I liked, cut him out of the background and saved them as PNG files so that I can put them on another background. I will continue working on this when I return to class next Thursday, since there’s no school Monday, Showchoir Tuesday, and ACC Wednesday.

What I did today, 3-27-12

Today I finished Chapter 3 of Mobile Web Design and Development Fundamentals off Lynda.com.

Today I learned about Geolocation, HTML5, Web Storage, and offline web application and which browsers support the different features for mobile web development. I learned about Modernizr and Mobile Boilerplate and the different features that they can do to assist mobile web development, including being able to detect the mobile devices browser without having to type up multiple lines of JavaScript code. I also learned how to build and test your mobile websites on desktop browsers.

What I did today, 3-26-12

Toda I watched the first few videos of Chapter 3 from Mobile Web Design & Development Fundamentals off Lynda.com.
Today I learned about IIS7, and how to host websites on the internet without the use of Dreamweaver. I also learned how to get all of the different SDK’s and emulators for different phones and mobile devices. I learned how to download and use the different emulators and how to set up localhost.

What I did today, 3-15-12

Today I began working on the thumbnail template that will be used as the thumbnail for each album on the pictures pages. After that, I began attempting to position them correctly and haven’t quite succeeded yet.

What I did today, 3-13-12

Today I watched Ch. 2 of Mobile Web Design & Development Fundamentals on Lynda.com.

Today I learned how to “design for one web”, meaning using one XHTML document and just applying multiple stylesheets for different medias. Also, that it’s never a good idea to use inline styles and code.
I also learned how to make the mobile website more accessible to users who may be multi-tasking, and how to detect what kind of mobile device being used to optimize the experience for the user. Such as different web browsers on different devices (Safari on iPhone, or Google Chrome on Android) so that I can have a different type of style for the different web browsers to make the website more accessible for that type of browser. I also learned that minimizing user input is also very important since most people will be using their phones with just one finger, usually their thumb on the hand they are using to hold the device.
It’s also better to use vertical scrolling features so that the user doesn’t have to pan left and right constantly and possibly miss some important information.

What I did today, 3-12-12

Today I watched Ch. 1 of Mobile Web Design & Development Fundamentals.

Today the instructor explained all of the many differences between mobile web and desktop web, as well as showed some websites’ mobile web on an iPhone, Android, and Windows phone.
He also explained how important it was to not only make your website different for mobile access, but also different between mobile devices due to screen size (such as an iPhone vs. an iPad)

Today I had to leave early due to soccer practice.

What I did today, 3-9-12

Today I created the banners for the category pages (the pages that show when you click the category itself instead of one of it’s sub-categories.) And finished putting the links on them.
After that I uploaded what I had so far and messed around on it testing it out.

Then I went and finished the last page, which was the “About The Choirs” page. Now all that’s left to do is get Mrs. Cummings to write down what she wants for the content of each page and I’ll be done with the EG website (aside from updating the dates on the homepage, as well as the picture pages. And I’ll also probably look a it every once in awhile and catch something I want to change, but other than all of that I’m done with the majority of the website).

Hopefully next week I can start putting in content.

What I did today, 3-8-12

Today I worked on the EG website.
I got all of the links put on every page, so now all of the navigation links are fully functioning.
Also, I took out the 7th & 8th grade categories under “Middle School” and “Pictures”, and replaced them with “Middle School Showchoir”.

After that, I began working on school pages. (The page that shows up when you click the word “Middle School”/”High School” instead of a list item under it)

What I did today, 3-6-12

Today I watched the remainder of Building Android and iOS Apps with Dreamweaver CS5.5
I had to leave early today, at 3:00-3:10 to go set up the stage and tables for tonight’s Giving of the Green concert.
Also, at the end of the course, I got to see a lot of awesome things that can be done in Dreamweaver when it comes to mobile apps. Such as Device Central and how to show clients your progress on apps. I’m LOVING learning about mobile application development.

The last video showed a recommended course to further learning about mobile web development, called “Mobile Web Design & Development Fundamentals” by Joe Marini. I’m hoping to start this course next week.

What I did today, 3-2-12

Today I continued work on the EG website.
Yesterday I got the layout for all of the grade pages completed, and today I completed the layout for all of the pictures pages.
I also had to create a main content banner image for the Parent Show Choir, since I didn’t get that one yesterday.

What I did today, 3-1-12

Today I worked on the EG website.
I got Main Content banners made for each “grade” page, and I set up the basic layouts for them as well.

What I did today, 2-29-12

Today I watched Ch. 6 and half of Ch. 7 of Building Android and iOS Apps on Dreamweaver CS5.5.
I probably would have been able to finish this course had the server not gone down.
It seems as though creating mobile apps in Dreamweaver is fairly easy, especially with jQuery Mobile, PhoneGap, and the XUI for PhoneGap. Adding different elements with jQuery Mobile definitely saves quite a bit of time when it comes to creating mobile apps.

Today I have to leave at 3:00 – 3:10 for soccer.
